Local Culture
Elizabeth City is blessed with several venues for the arts. The Pasquotank Arts Council maintains a gallery on Main Street, where you can buy paintings and crafts from local artists. The Arts Council has several juried shows a year, and maintains a school of the arts for young people. You can reach them at 252-338-6455.
PAC is in the process of restoring the Elizabeth City Opera House for use as a gallery, offices, and performing center. Once a venue for vaudeville shows, the Opera House stage will provide a larger playhouse for Elizabeth City's Encore Players. This talented troupe of local actors and singers performs three or four productions each year, currently using the Main Street Stage as their performing area. The Museum of the Albemarle, on Highway 17, South, interprets 400 years of local history. In 2005, the museum will move into its grand new building that dominates the Elizabeth City skyline. For Adults
The Knobbs Creek Recreation Center at 200 East Ward Street offers a wide array of team sports and exercise opportunities, including co-ed volleyball, softball, group fitness classes like aerobics and yoga, and adult gym time. Call 252-335-1424 for a current line-up of offerings. Senior Center
Also located at Knobb's Creek Recreation Center is a Senior Center for people 55 and older who live in Elizabeth City, Pasquotank, or Camden Counties. A full schedule of weekly activities, special events and trips are offered year-round, and an exercise room is available. The center is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday - Friday. Ballroom Dancing Classes

For Kids
The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO)
AYSO is co-ed soccer organization for children ages five to 15. Spring League: Already under way Fall League: Must register in June to begin playing in September. $45 to sign up. If you sign up in the fall, you can register for both fall and spring leagues for a discount price of $70. An AYSO Soccer Camp will be held July 26-30, 2004. Sign-ups going on now.
